After-School classes, which are offered at the Cambridge Rindge & Latin
School in Cambridge, are focused on
learning Chinese language. The classes are open to students of
six years or older who currently reside in Cambridge or will move
to live in Cambridge. After their regular schools, students from
Cambridge public school may take school bus to the Chinese
School. After-School classes is offered according to two
different schedules: everyday class or Tuesday-Thursday class.
Everyday Class
is offered between 3:00pm and 5:00pm everyday. This class is taught
at different levels according to students’ Chinese language
abilities.
Elementary Level:
Students learn standard Chinese pronunciation and
phonetic alphabet, strokes of Chinese Characters, rule and order
of strokes, commonly used structural parts and radicals of
Chinese characters and word forms and structures. Students will
develop basic skill to recognize Chinese characters and build
certain amount of vocabulary and to learn to read with the aid of
pictures or read simple children’s books.
Middle Level:
Here we are put emphasis on training students to
develop their abilities to recognize Chinese charter without any
help and build more Chinese vocabulary. We also emphasize on
students’ abilities to understand and use different words
and phrases, and their sentence-building and reading skills.
Students will be able to do simple writing with the aid of
pictures or by observing subjects.
High level:
Here we aim at training students to develop basic skills
of independent reading and analyzing. We will also enhance the
training of students in understanding rhetoric and logic in
Chinese relatively fluently.
